With the gondola of the Markbachjochbahn (300 meters from the apartment) you come on top of the "house mountain" of the village Niederau (about 825 meters high), the Markbachjoch (about 1500 meters high). On the Markbachjoch you have a beautiful view of the mountain landscape, including the Wilder Kaiser and Hohe Salve, but also on Niederau. In the summer the Markbachjoch is a very nice hiking area, in the winter a beautiful ski area.
Cozy huts on the Markbachjoch are: The Rübezahl Hütte, Jochalm, Kropfraderjochalm (only open in winter) and Käsealm (only open in summer). After a nice walk it is wonderful to come here and enjoy something.
Then with the gondola back to the village or on foot, if there is still time and energy left. Be sure to consult a hiking map for the possibilities!
